What data we collect & why
Newsletter sign-up
If you subscribe to our newsletter (via the sign-up forms that appear on posts across the Site, powered by MailPoet), we collect your name & email address so we can send you the emails you've asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email we send, or by contacting us directly. Legal basis: your consent.
Contact form
If you use the contact form on the Site (powered by Ninja Forms), we collect your name, email address & the message you send us, so we can reply to your enquiry. We keep this correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your query & for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, or your consent where the enquiry itself is consent-based.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) & Google Search Console to understand how visitors use the Site (pages viewed, time on site, general traffic patterns) & to see how the Site performs in Google search results. Analytics cookies are only set once you've given consent through our cookie banner (see Cookies below). Google may process this data on servers outside the UK; where it does, this happens under Google's standard contractual clauses. Legal basis: your consent.
Security
We use Wordfence to protect the Site from malicious traffic, hacking attempts & spam. This involves processing IP addresses & other technical/request data for security purposes. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the Site & its users safe.
Affiliate links
Some posts on the Site contain affiliate links to retailers. If you click through & make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don't pass your personal data to these retailers ourselves; the affiliate network or retailer may set its own cookie to track that the referral came from us, & that's governed by their own privacy policy, not ours. We'll always try to flag affiliate content clearly on the Site.
Cookies
We use Complianz to manage cookie consent on the Site. When you first visit, you'll be asked which categories of cookies you're happy for us to use:
- Strictly necessary cookies – required for the Site to function (e.g. remembering your cookie preferences). These don't need consent.
- Analytics cookies – Google Analytics, used to understand Site traffic. Only set if you consent.
- Affiliate/tracking cookies – set by affiliate networks when you click an affiliate link, to attribute any resulting purchase to us. Only set if you consent, where applicable.
You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time through the Complianz preferences link, usually found in the Site footer.
Who we share data with
We share data with the following third parties, each acting as a processor or in their own right as set out above:
- MailPoet – newsletter delivery
- Ninja Forms – contact form processing (data is processed on our own WordPress installation)
- Google (Analytics & Search Console) – analytics
- Wordfence – security
- Complianz – cookie consent management
- Affiliate networks/retailers – only insofar as a referral click is attributed to us, as described above
- Our hosting provider – to keep the Site running
We don't sell your personal data to anyone.
How long we keep your data
- Newsletter data: for as long as you remain subscribed, & deleted (or anonymised) within a reasonable period after you unsubscribe.
- Contact form enquiries: for as long as needed to handle the enquiry & a reasonable period after, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
- Security logs: retained only as long as needed for security purposes.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data deleted, in certain circumstances
- Restrict or object to how we process your data
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@wristybizzle.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children's privacy
The Site isn't directed at children & we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we change how we use data or if the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
